I Have a little dilemma and maybe someone out there can help me out. I recently got the new MacBook and couldn't wait to start messing around with Garage Band. To my surprise, the new Macbook declined to add a Firewire port. Instead only 2 dinky USB 2.0 ports. You would think apple would have disclosed that. And why would they include Garage Band without Firewire ports??
Has anyone had any luck using any USB 2.0 Interfaces to record with using Garage Band . I spent the last week researching reviews and tips and Im yet to find a good interface that can accommodate this feat. I looked at the M-Audio Ultra 8, Mackie USB Mixers, & one by Aliess but the more I dig into the reviews, the more I get turned away.
Is there a solution or am I S.O.L!

I already have the Presonus Firebox which is all Firewire. (this was given to me) I.m not very technical when it comes to how software and drivers work, But reading reviews - that seem to be the problem with all these Interfaces.
Is there a hub or converter box this that can convert Firewire to USB 2.0. Thats what Im really looking for. Or am I trying to combine Apples with Oranges?

Hey, I'm not an expert on this at all but I have a TASCAM US-122L USB interface and I use it with my Macbook. I actually upgraded from Garage Band to Logic Express and it works pretty well. I had a latency issue at one point but a more technically savvy friend fixed it in the settings somehow. The Tascam is less then $150 so it's not a huge investment but it's only 2 channels. I'm pretty surprised that your Macbook does not have firewire though... Good luck man!
