Best mic for vocals

What is the preferred mic for lead vocals? How about for those singing backup? We are currently using Sennheiser E835's but are thinking about trying Neumann U87ai's. Anyone have any experience with the Neumann's or suggestions based on prior experiences?

We all use Beta 58s in our band. They seem to work well for what we do. They're certainly not the best mic on the market, but for the price I don't think much can beat them.
