anyone hear play through modded marshall amps? i know i'm probably just talking to myself right now but i'm sorta changing my rig around...for the past 4 years i've been playing live through line 6 amps...a flextone HD and more recently a Vetta HD...great amps... but being a VH freak i decided to grab a scott splawn quick rod head which is basically a more versatile modified marshall plexi that he builds from scratch with better materials than marshall...it's a master volume head (i like that - no attenuators) and it has a clean channel/2 distortion levels/ an effects loop/ a solo boost...that really works great...and it sounded terrific...i was thinking it wouldn't be as versatile as the vetta for live playing but after picking up a pd xt live that i feed through it i'm beginning to change my mind it uses the tube amp distortion of the splawn with the effects of the pod...so far the patches that i've worked up sound pretty good...i think i'm going to try it out live this friday...

hey there my guitar player has a bunch of marahall clones which really put marshall to shame. Top of the line for an absolute clone from the past is The Blockhead 100 watt super lead plexi and the blockhead split front 45. My GP's gone to they guy's house on a couple of occasions and has racked up a phone bill talking to him as well. In a word, these amps are AWESOME. They just kill any marshall we've put them up against, inluding his purple hendrix reissue. Loud though. Very loud. He also has a couple of Bogner Extacsy heads; both the 101B and the classic mod Those are much more versatile amps and sound fantastic. Much better to take on a gig than the Blockhead if you need a lot of tones. He tried and subsequently returned a Maven Peal Ganesha. The amp sounded good, but has horrible noise issues, especially loud pops when effects are used, moving the switch on your strat, and just about anything. Too bad really, although the head was also way too big and heavy. More like an SVT head than a Marshall.
