So...new to the board, kinda new to the area too. Was wondering, what are some great bars/venues etc. for seeing some local metal bands perform (I'm more into death/thrash/swedish/black metal type stuff), and possibly make some contacts towards joining or putting together my own band. I know about Toads, and The Webster. I live in Manchester, not far from Hartford. So...where do all the metalheads go 'round here?

Welcome to CTMA metalmanx. OK I'm in Springfield so all I can really speak to for that kind of stuff would be Cabot Street in Chicopee. Not necessarily "death/thrash/swedish/black metal type stuff" but probably the closest thing in W.Mass if you want to go a little north. Since the Fat Cat changed up in Springfield, that's where that crowd has been going around here.
