For bands, what's your favorite club to play? For music fans, what's your favorite club to see a band?

Toads in New Haven to see bands. Pearl Street and the Iron Horse in NoHo to play and see bands. I used to love playing Ciopinno's, even if all my gear stunk like cigarettes afterwards.

Well, there's no smoking now. We played there a couple months back. I'd like to see the floorplan modified there a bit. They should move the stage to a different wall. There's too many beams and such in the way.

John, do you remember when you played at Ciopinno's? After the bar closed, they broke out a pile of ashtrays and everyone sat at the bar smoking? I think that's wrong, even after hours, and I'm a smoker.

The Brickyard and Maxmium Capacity when there is a crowd... Chippiono's closed and is re-opening under some new name...

I believe the previous owner at Ciopinno's now has West Coast Prime in Manchester. It's more of a restaurant with a bar but we did play there and they do have bands from time to time. It's a pretty small area to set up in but not bad if you can move some tables.

Yeah, I never answered this one. I have a few. Tuxedo's because it's huge and you have a little back stage room to chill in. But the show is a bit more demanding. Murphy's always has a fun crowd. Geraldine's is cool and has a nice system. Brickyard used to be awesome, but it seems to get dirtier and emptier every time I go. If they hired a janitor that place would be hopping.

I agree on the Brickyard. It use to be the PRIME venue in Hartford, but even on Thursday's during college it is really not full... Too much competition that was never there in the past.

It's not the competition. When I play there I get the same excuses why people don't want to go there "it's dirty and the bouncers are non -existant." It just seems like they've given up on trying to be a cool spot. They could so simply reverse that with some minor renovations and with keeping the place clean. THere's no reason a bar with a dance hall, a rock area, sports section and a pub should be being beaten by anyone.

Yeah, they need to clean that place up a bit. I get the same response when I talk to people about it. You do have the Pour House right there which does really well but I don't think it's cometition either. Every bar owner I have talked to in the past mont (only 6 or so) says that it's really slow; slower than usual right now and that's in Ma and Ct.

Yeah, summer is always slow regardless. But even in the peak, Brickyard could do far better if they cleaned up a bit.

As far as clubs to play at I like Geraldines, like John said, they have a great system. I also like Breakers, the staff there is really cool.

Haha, yeah, I'd LOVE to open a club for live music in Hartford. But yeah, I've noticed some rough bouncers there too. Not sure where that comes from, but I've heard it.
But I think cleanliness is a major issue with why people won't go to a certain bar. You're right though, the competition is taking some away, but they've had live music there for alot longer than up or on the rocks has been there.
