What do you think about the talent in CT & Western MA? I think we have some really talented players in CT & Western MA. What's your take on things?

Man...looks like nobody wants to say anything about anyone else, good or bad.
I moved here a few years ago from Michigan. DJs are the rule and cover bands are few and far between. As a result, the musician community is smaller and more underground. Here, everybody plays in a band and every bar has live entertainment.
You can't swing a dead cat in CT without knocking over two or three excellent musicians.

Haha, I totally forgot I posted this! I think there is a fair amount of cover bands in CT, not as many in MA. But yeah, there are a ton of amazing musicians around here. It is a shame that many bars did convert to DJ only. But I think I'm slowly seeing it change back the other way.

I don't think age is an issue. I'm 28 and I play cover tunes on the weekends. I doubt I'll stop when I cross the 30 threshhold. Though I do think far too many cover bands are playing the same set. We have this argument in my band all the time. I want to do something different, while others feel we should do songs that are more guaranteed to go over. So we end up conceding points on both ends. We do about 50% of a typical 'party band' set and 50% unique tunes. But there are maybe 5 or 6 bands I can think of right now that all have almost identical set lists. As a band you really have to give people a reason to come see you rather than any of the other bands.

You're right, the bigger cover bands are guys in their mid to late 30s and in some cases older. I think it's more of an issue of them having played forever. Any band will gain a major fan base if they hit the same market relentlessly for years and years. But I can't agree that an older guy is less worthy of playing a good show.
I would like to see more of a diversity though. I'd love to see a younger band pulling off a show like the veterans.

I don't think he has, I'll have to check my messages. I saw some flashing when I left this morning. It was a busy weekend for me. I was hardly home at all. I should've given you my cell phone, not sure why I didn't. I"m PMing it now.

10pm. The Murphys site says Weird Uncle is playing, but rest assured it's us. They forgot to change it.
Yeah, introduce yourself if you come. I'm the bassist. Hope to see you there!

Yeah, www.myspace.com/ctmamusic Actually, I get a ton of hits here, just not many people want to talk on the board. Odd. I don't have a banner, but you can use this if you'd like: Thanks!
